How do I store my placenta?我如何保存胎盤？

Accepted Answer

Upon your order, we will provide you will a Placenta Collection Kit for your healthcare professionals to store your placenta safely. It includes instructions and everything you will need to keep your placenta after birth.
Once your placenta is stored in the cooler provided in the kit, it will keep cool for 30 hours. However, we will collect your sample within 24 hours after you give birth.
We will deliver your bottle of capsules within 3-4 days after your birth date.
收到你的訂單後，我們會為你提供一個胎盤收集套裝，讓醫護人員安全地幫你保存胎盤。套裝包括使用指南以及保存胎盤所需的工具。

Are there any reasons the hospital may not allow me to keep my placenta?醫院會不容許我保存胎盤嗎？

Accepted Answer

This is very rare. If there are significant abnormalities of the placenta your healthcare team may send your placenta for further examination. Other conditions, such as signs of infection during labour, may mean that consuming your placenta is not advisable. The most usual reason is that your hospital, doctor or midwife are not aware that you want it to keep your placenta. Clear communication is therefore essential!
一般不會出現此情況。如果胎盤出現嚴重異常，你的醫護團隊有可能需要將胎盤送往化驗。其他情況如生產時出現感染，即代表你可能不適宜服用胎盤。最常見的情況是你的醫院、醫生或助產士不知道你想保留胎盤。所以記得要事前溝通清楚。

Are there any situations that would make it unsafe for me to consume my placenta?在甚麼情況下我不適宜服用胎盤？

Accepted Answer

There are a few situations where we would not be able to process your placenta. These are:
If the mother had contraindications such as medical conditions or medications that would make the placenta unsuitable for ingestion
If there is an uterine infection
If the placenta is improperly stored
If the mother smoked during pregnancy or had high heavy metal exposure
Please let us know if you have any specific questions. If you are on medication during your pregnancy we ask you to seek advice from your consultant before deciding on placenta encapsulation.

Can I encapsulate if I’m induced, have a Caesarean section or a medicated birth?如果我引產、剖腹生產，或在生產過程中使用藥物，可否製作胎盤膠囊？

Accepted Answer

Encapsulation is still possible if you give birth with an epidural or if you have a Caesarean section. The placenta acts as a filter, filtering out toxins and sending them back to the mother’s liver to be detoxed from the system. If you are on medication during your pregnancy we ask you to seek advice from your consultant before deciding on placenta encapsulation.

Can I use my placenta if I have a water birth?如果在水中生產，可否服用胎盤？

Accepted Answer

Yes, but it is important that the placenta is delivered onto a clean surface such as a sterile pad or towel and not into the birthing pool.

Question 8

What happens if my placenta is stained with meconium?如果胎盤沾上了胎糞怎麼辦？

Accepted Answer

Meconium is sterile. It does not contain the fecal bacteria that normal stool does and therefore it is not usually dangerous for placental encapsulation. We will advise you once we have checked it.
胎糞是無菌的，並不會像一般糞便一樣含糞便型大腸菌，所以對胎盤膠囊並沒有影響。我們會在檢查後通知你。

Question 9

Can I delay cord clamping if I am encapsulating my placenta?如果我想製作胎盤膠囊，可不可以延遲剪臍帶？

Accepted Answer

Yes. Delayed cord clamping (waiting at least 10 minutes after delivery to cut the cord) is associated with benefits for babies, especially preterm infants. Delaying cord clamping will not have any negative effect on your placenta.
可以。延遲剪臍帶（生產後等待最少10分鐘才剪臍帶）對嬰兒有很多好處，特別是早產兒。延遲剪臍帶對胎盤並沒有任何負面影響。

Question 10

What if I am Group B Strep positive (GBS) or have an infection and need antibiotics, will I still be able to use my placenta?如果我對乙型鏈球菌呈陽性反應，或因為發炎而需服抗生素，我可以服用胎盤嗎？

Accepted Answer

Group B Strep is a common bacterium that does not normally pose health risks to the mother. All bacteria in the placenta are killed during the steaming process, and with Group B Strep we only use the Traditional Chinese Medicine method of placenta encapsulation.
Rarely, Group B Strep can lead to uterine infection. If you developed a uterine infection or fever during your labour, your placenta would not be considered useful in healing, and is likely to be taken to the pathology lab for testing. Otherwise Group B Strep is not contra-indicated in placenta remedy preparation.

Yes, you can do both. It is important to ensure your midwife and doctor knows that you wish to have both placenta and cord services. Where possible it should be included in your birth plan.

Can I have my placenta encapsulated if I am diagnosed with pre-eclampsia?如果我確診妊娠毒血症，可否製作胎盤膠囊？

Accepted Answer

Placenta encapsulation is not contraindicated for mothers with pre-eclampsia. Many women who have had pre-eclampsia have very successfully used placenta capsules.

Can I have my placenta encapsulated if my baby is premature?如果我的嬰兒早產，可以製作胎盤膠囊嗎？

Accepted Answer

Yes, mums of premature babies need all the help they can get bringing in their milk, healing quickly, and balancing post-natal mood. As long as your placenta is examined and cleared for any type of abnormalities after birth we are happy to encapsulate it.

Are there any people who cannot have capsules made from their placenta?會有人的胎盤無法製成膠囊嗎？

Accepted Answer

You cannot have capsules made from your placenta if you have a blood-borne virus such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C or HIV. If you are taking any prescription medicines other than those used during pregnancy, please seek the advice of your doctor before having capsules made from your placenta.

Placenta Encapsulation is the process of turning raw placenta into safe-to-consume capsules, similar to herbal supplements. There are many potential benefits of taking placenta capsules for your health.

What can you do with your placenta after birth?生產後的胎盤有甚麼用途？

Accepted Answer

Your placenta can be processed and 'encapsulated', meaning it can be turned in to capsules for you to take in the weeks or months after birth. We can also make some other amazing remedies, such as a tincture, which can be stored for life.

Accepted Answer

Placentas vary in size so the number of capsules also varies. The number of capsules made from a standard placenta can be anywhere from 150-180.

How long will my capsules last?膠囊可以存放多久？

Accepted Answer

It is very important that Placenta Capsules are consumed within 12 weeks. They should be stored in a cool, dry dark cupboard, but not the fridge. We strongly advise clients to wash their hands before handling their placenta capsules and avoid leaving the jar open. The tincture, on the other hand, can be consumed throughout the life of the mother. Storage for the tincture is the same as capsules.

Question 19

How often do you take placenta pills?我應何時服用胎盤膠囊？

Accepted Answer

Most women are recommended to consume 1-2 capsules three times a day during the first few weeks post-partum. After that you can reduce the dose to 1-2 capsules daily until you have completed all the capsules. You can also adjust your dose to take extra (but we like to recommend no more than 6/day) whenever you feel you may need a little more energy or to boost your milk supply when breastfeeding. Placenta capsules can be taken as needed and there is no single correct dose. You may adjust your dose as you feel right. Listen to your body – it will tell you what it needs!

Question 20

Will I experience any side effects when taking my placenta capsules?服用胎盤膠囊會有副作用嗎？

Accepted Answer

We highly recommend you follow the care instructions. Storing your placenta capsules properly, avoiding TCM capsules when ill and not taking more than the recommended dose will reduce your chances of experiencing any side effects. 
However, if you experience any side effect which you suspect is caused by your remedies, please stop taking them immediately. Please inform us without delay and seek medical advice.
Reported side effects are rare but there have been isolated cases of headaches, nausea, dizziness, jitteriness and stomach distress.

When should I not take placenta capsules?我應何時停止服用胎盤膠囊？

Accepted Answer

It is not advised to take your placenta capsules if you have an infection, common cold, flu, fever or an infection such as mastitis. Only once your symptoms have subsided should you start taking your placenta capsules again. We advise you to order Placenta Tincture to complement the capsules. 
Do not take placenta capsules while you are pregnant because of their hormone levels. If you do experience any side effects stop taking the remedies immediately and inform us and seek medical advice.
如果你有發炎如乳腺炎、傷風、感冒、或發燒，你就不應服用胎盤。一旦症狀消退，你就可以開始服食胎盤膠囊。我們建議你預訂酊劑配合膠囊服用。

Yes they can. It’s best to consume them within 6 months and store them in a cool, dry place, but not in the fridge.

We will pick up your sample within 24 hours after your birth. The placenta is then immediately processed and delivered to you in 3-4 days.
